Media Digest: Liverpool have been made aware of a possible double update regarding Jude Bellingham, as well as the latest news on a potential FSG takeover scheme.
‘Rare positive’ in Liverpool struggles
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp called the “rare” positive for the Reds that he can see right now: the performance of young Spanish midfielder Stefan Bajčetić.
“There are not many positive aspects of the situation we are in, but this clearly opens doors and gaps and creates situations for young players,” said Klopp. “That’s clearly one of the few good things and especially Stefan
“I’m not even sure if the door was open, but Stefan went through it and he was exceptional at the moment, I think that’s clear. We have to be careful with him because he’s very young.” He received a yellow card and to be honest I don’t know if it was entirely his fault [after Thiago’s pass] but he was still very good in the game.
card and I don’t know if, to be honest, it was entirely his fault [after Thiago’s pass] but he was still very good in the game.
“Of course he was tired and every player is a risk when he’s warned and he’s tired, so we didn’t want to take that. But he’s doing very well.”
Bellingham transfer claim
Jude Bellingham is set to turn down a five-year contract offer from Borussia Dortmund as the England star intends to leave the Bundesliga club this summer, according to the Daily Star.
They also report that Manchester City see themselves as the driving force behind signing Bellingham, with the possibility of re-signing Erling Haaland being a key factor, as well as the possibility of working with Pep Guardiola. Liverpool and Real Madrid are considered player favourites, although that could potentially change if the Reds lose their Champions League places.
FSG acquisition update
The Telegraph reports that it is increasingly likely FSG will be unable to sell Liverpool outright, with a minority stake being the most likely outcome at this point.
In a piece largely on the future of Manchester United, which is also up for sale, Sam Wallace writes: “Liverpool’s hopes of a full sale are fading and the compromise could be the sale of a part of the club that has raises that can be reinvested”.
That has always been a strong option for the Reds and would perhaps be the best result: Liverpool would have more to spend on the market, but would not even risk a change of ownership to a less lenient regime than FSG, or with different intentions.

Liverpool are associated with quality midfielders and once again Marcelo Brozovic’s name is in the spotlight.
According to Calcio Mercato Web, Liverpool are preparing a player plus money to terminate the Croatia international’s services during the January transfer window.
Italian media have mentioned that the Reds would like to go ahead with a proposal involving Naby Keita and Cash to sign the 30-year-old Croatia international.
The Guinea international’s contract expires this summer, leaving the Merseysiders paying big bucks to land the midfielder from Inter Milan, who is valued at around €30-35million.
Brozovic’s current contract at the San Siro expires in the summer of 2026 and he earns around £202,000 gross per week. CMW says Liverpool want a quick deal this month to sign the former Dinamo Zagreb star.
The experienced midfielder is mostly a killjoy, who can go forward and also score/create goals. With the Nerazzurri he won all the major national titles and has been a brilliant player for the national team over the years.
The 83-year-old was a key member of the Croatian squad that reached the 2018 World Cup final and won the bronze medal in Qatar last year.
He has played more than 300 games for Inter so far, scoring 30 goals and providing 37 assists. Unfortunately, he has spent a lot of time on the treatment table this season.
At Anfield, Naby Keita has been an injury-prone player since joining us in 2018. Brozovic has a decent injury record but this season hasn’t gone well.
Brozovic has started only 7 Serie A games so far and has been out due to hamstring and calf injuries. If Liverpool should move in in your opinion to secure his signing before the deadline.
