Keown sends United a warning before Sunday

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Manchester United have no right to feel “confident” ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Liverpool.

Going into this game following last weekend’s Carabao Cup Final win, plus an FA Cup win at the expense of West Ham, Erik ten Hag’s side are confident this season

But the Red Devils haven’t tasted victory at Anfield since 2016 and Keown believes United cannot get ahead of themselves as this match approaches. “I just think it’s a great game for Liverpool because they can try to get their season in almost one game here,” he told talkSPORT.

“Liverpool haven’t been great this season, they’re in a temporary phase I think but look at what they’ve done in recent years. Maybe there’s been a bit of a burnout there, but they had a good recovery and a good look at this game, I think they will be in very good shape on Sunday.

“The atmosphere in this stadium will be incredible. Last time Liverpool beat Wolves, they took Crystal Palace away, they beat Newcastle and Everton… they are on a small flight and this is a huge match for them. Manchester United think they will come back and there is a lot of confidence there but this is so new to them that I don’t think they can be so sure about going there and winning at Anfield.”

After a win against Wolves on Wednesday night, attention is now turning to Sunday’s huge showdown with Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will look to continue the hunt for fourth place, strengthened by the midweek victory at Anfield.

Opponents on the rise, United are currently brimming with confidence, coming into this match having won the Carabao Cup, although the Red Devils have not been able to get the better of the Reds away from home since January 2016.

Preparations have been made behind the scenes ahead of the final meeting between the sides, but what was to be seen of Liverpool’s latest training session at their XXA base? We’ve taken a look below.

Diaz’s recovery continues

The return of the Colombian star cannot come soon enough and Liverpool fans won’t have long to wait to see Luis Diaz in action again.

Sidelined with a knee injury in October, the former Porto star was photographed going for a light jog last month and today continued his rehabilitation program through a series of indoor activities supervised by medical staff.

Potter asked about Mount Future

Mason Mount’s future at Chelsea looks no more clear after manager Graham Potter refused to look into the matter.

And that could pave the way for a summer move to Anfield, after multiple reports suggested the midfielder could be headed to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. Mount has been at the West London club since he was six, but Metro report the 24-year-old, who is currently earning £80,000 a week, wants a much improved deal that will put him on par with some of the best signings in the game. club.

Having made so many signings of late, Chelsea seem reluctant to offer him what he wants and when Potter was asked about Liverpool links during his press conference on Friday, he tried to brush the question aside.

The under-fire Chelsea manager said: “It’s been great working with Mason. He was brilliant. He’s suffering like all of us because we want to do better. “As for the contract, it’s between him and the club. I’m the manager, so my goal is to help the players improve. Right now we’re not doing it as well as we’d like. So that’s the goal for me” .

Diaz is getting closer to returning

Luis Diaz continues his rehabilitation process at the Reds’ AXA Training Center as he nears his return to the first team.

The Colombian full-back has not played for the Reds since injuring his knee in a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal in October. Roberto Firmino is set to provide crucial transfer support to end Liverpool’s ban

Theo Squires assesses the departure of Roberto Firmino, who will leave Liverpool this summer when his contract expires.

When Steven Gerrard decided to leave his beloved Liverpool in 2015, the legendary Reds captain later admitted his decision was influenced by Brendan Rodgers, who only used him as a substitute against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in last November.

Eight years on and now that Roberto Firmino has told Jurgen Klopp he will be leaving Anfield when his contract expires this summer, one wonders if history will repeat itself.

Granted, Liverpool haven’t made it to the Bernabeu yet, that will come later this month. But the Reds’ most recent game, a 2-0 win over Wolves, could have influenced his thinking in the same way.
