Liverpool youngster Ben Doak caused worrying scenes in the Reds’ last UEFA Youth League game after collapsing on the pitch.

Doak, 17, fell to the ground after jumping after a header with a Sporting player who initially managed to stay on his feet.

Paramedics raced onto the pitch to help the Liverpool man when the referee stopped play.

He eventually recovered but was immediately substituted. The club later confirmed the Scotland Under-21 international was doing “well” but needed “close monitoring” after the clash.

The incident happened just six minutes into the match, in which Rodrigo Ribeiro scored the game’s only goal after 65 minutes.

Doak stumbled a few steps after the challenge before collapsing.

He was treated by several paramedics under the nervous gaze of players from both sides.

The two players appeared to bump heads as they battled for the ball in the air, although the Sporting player was unharmed. Doak lay on the floor for about two minutes as he was treated.

The Scotland U21 star is one of Liverpool’s most valued talents, having made five appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

He arrived from Celtic last year and looks forward to a great future at Merseyside.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has received calls to include Doak in a senior squad but made the decision to leave him out when his latest squad was named for him on Tuesday.

However, Doak has been brought up to the U21 squad by manager Scot Gemmill, who is eagerly awaiting an update on his condition.
