Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is said to be under increasing pressure as the reigning La Liga champions’ difficult period continues

According to reports from Spain, Real Madrid (opens in a new tab) have approached Jurgen Klopp with the potential to sign him from Liverpool (opens in a new tab) this summer.

Los Blancos meet Al Hilal in the Club World Cup final on Saturday but have had a tough start to 2023, having won just two of their five La Liga games since the start of the year – losing two, including a 1-0 defeat last time out at Mallorca.

The defending champions are now eight points behind leaders and rivals Barcelona – and there has been speculation that Carlo Ancelotti could be sacked at the end of the season unless Real win a major title.

And according to Barcelona-based newspaper El Nacional (via Goal (opens in a new tab)), Real have already been in contact with Klopp to discuss the possibility of becoming their new manager.

Doubts have been cast over Klopp’s future as Liverpool continue to endure a torrid season and face an uphill battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League. But the German could still lead the Reds to victory this season – in the Champions League, where they face Ancelotti’s Madrid in this month’s round of 16, a repeat of last year’s final.

Vinicius Jr’s goal ensured Blancos victory in Paris and the fact that Ancelotti’s position looks precarious just seven months later really signifies the constant and intense scrutiny that comes with managing silverware-obsessed Madrid.

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita from the current squad could be given a free transfer at the end of the season. Liverpool need reinforcements. Mason Mount might prove perfect for their attacking system, but he might prefer to stay at Chelsea.
