The rape claim against Cristiano Ronaldo in Vegas was dismissed by a US judge

Cristiano Ronaldo was ordered to pay a Nevada woman millions of dollars more than the $375,000 settlement she obtained after alleging he assaulted her in Las Vegas in 2009.

The lawsuit was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey in Las Vegas on Friday to penalize the woman’s attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, for “bad faith conduct” and the use of “purloined” confidential documents, which the judge said stained the case beyond redemption.

In her 42-page judgment, Dorsey acknowledged that dismissing a case without the chance of reopening it is a harsh punishment, but she claimed that Stovall’s actions had injured Ronaldo.

“I find that the procurement and continued use of these documents was in bad faith, and simply disqualifying Stovall will not alleviate Ronaldo’s prejudice because the misappropriated documents and their confidential contents have been woven into the very fabric of [plaintiff Kathryn] Mayorga’s claims,” the ruling stated. “Harsh penalties are warranted.”

Stovall did not respond to phone and email messages left for him on Saturday. Larissa Drohobyczer, an associate, did not respond to text messages. They have the option of appealing the ruling to the 9th United States Circuit Court of Appeals

The statement stated, “We have maintained the action was brought in ill faith.” “The unequivocal dismissal of plaintiff’s lawsuit should instill renewed faith in the judicial process in this country while discouraging those who seek to undermine it,” said the judge.

The Associated Press does not usually name persons who claim to have been sexual assault victims, but Mayorga granted her permission for her name to be made public through Stovall and Drohobyczer.

Ronaldo’s attorney in Las Vegas, Peter Christiansen, said in a statement that his client’s legal team was pleased with Mayorga’s decision.

Stovall failed to meet a procedural deadline in his bid for more than $25 million in damages based on allegations that Ronaldo or his associates violated a 2010 confidentiality agreement by allowing reports about it to appear in European publications in 2017. Dorsey had signaled earlier this year that she was ready to end the case after Stovall failed to meet a procedural deadline in his bid for more than $25 million in damages based on allegations that Ronaldo or his associates violated a 2010 confidentiality agreement by

Mayorga’s civil lawsuit, which was first filed in state court in 2018 and then moved to federal court in 2019, claimed that Ronaldo or his associates broke the confidentiality agreement before the German news outlet Der Spiegel published an article titled “Cristiano Ronaldo’s Secret,” which was based on documents obtained from “whistleblower portal Football Leaks.”

The reports were blamed on electronic data leaks of documents obtained from law firms and other businesses in Europe and placed up for sale, according to Ronaldo’s legal team. Christiansen also claimed that information had been tampered with or created.

Since the lawsuit first surfaced in 2018, Christiansen and Las Vegas attorney Kendelee Works have successfully sought to keep the contract hidden.

According to Ronaldo’s legal team, the reports were caused by electronic data dumps of papers taken from law firms and other businesses in Europe and put up for sale. Christiansen further stated that data had been manipulated or made up.

Christiansen and Las Vegas attorney Kendelee Works have successfully fought to keep the contract confidential since the case first surfaced in 2018.
