Borussia Dortmund scored six goals against FC Cologne in a bid to overtake Bayern Munich and take the Bundesliga lead with a 6-1 win at Signal Iduna Park.

Raphael Guerreiro scored the opening goal within 15 minutes before Sebastian Haller quickly netted the second and Marco Reus the third after half an hour.
Jude Bellingham found Reus on the edge of the box for the captain to deflect the ball with a delicious flick towards Guerreiro, who put the ball on a plate so Haller could give Dortmund a two lead.

The best was yet to come for Dortmund, who scored a spectacular third through captain Reus. Mahmoud Dahoud fired the ball past the Cologne defense as Malen rushed towards it before his close-range shot was cleared by Schwabe, but Malen picked up the rebound with his back to goal and found Guerreiro, who passed the ball to Reus who curled up. a powerful but exquisite attack in the top corner.
Dortmund had the fourth time when Schwabe failed to stop Malen’s powerful shot at the near post.
Just before the break, Köln managed to fight back a goal with Davie Selke finding the roof of the net from a tight angle, but Dortmund continued their relentless form into the second half.

Dahoud’s free kick worried Schwabe and forced a good save from the goalkeeper who knocked the ball off the crossbar, before Haller – completely unmarked – soaked up the rebound to beat Dortmund’s fifth.

SUBJECT – DORTMUND SENDS A WARNING TO BAVARIA

Dortmund slipped in last week’s 2-2 draw at Schalke, missing a chance to draw with Bayern in the Bundesliga. However, they didn’t want to make a second mistake and beat Cologne to prove they could play like champions.
Not only is it a great result that puts them on top – at least until Sunday – it also sends a message to Bayern as to who they will play next in what could be a titular fixture after the international break.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH – RAPHAEL GUERREIRO (DORTMUND)

Two assists and the goal to kick off Dortmund’s party. Gurreiro was exceptional in the game and seemed involved in everything Dortmund threw against Cologne. He took his goal brilliantly, controlling a difficult cross before slicing it past the Cologne keeper in one motion to trigger Dortmund’s demise.

He was involved in the first three goals, scoring the opening goal before setting up Haller and Reus and the way he and his Dortmund team-mates played the game was already won by then.
