Conclusions of jurgen klopp deal with sofyam amrabat to join liverpool
Sofyan Amrabat had an excellent World Cup for Morocco in Qatar
Liverpool have expressed interest in signing the midfielder from Fiorentina
Jurgen Klopp attended a meeting to convince him to join the club
However, Amrabat has a clear preference to join Atletico Madrid instead.
Jurgen Klopp is said to have attended a meeting with Sofyan Amrabat’s representatives in a bid to persuade the Fiorentina midfielder to join Liverpool this month.
Amrabat was a standout player for Morocco at the World Cup in Qatar, playing every minute of his team’s campaign as they made history by becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals .
His performances caught the attention of Liverpool and he has been linked with a move to Anfield. The Reds have struggled this season as their midfield has been regularly overrun and they have been looking for potential signings who could strengthen that area of the squad.
Amrabat is a target that has been identified and Klopp was so keen on adding the 26-year-old to his squad that he went to meet the player’s entourage in person, according to Foot Mercato. However, the report claims that Amrabat has made it clear that he would prefer to join another team as he wants to join Atletico Madrid.
Amrabat is a huge admirer of Atletico manager Diego Simeone who appears to have given the Spanish side the lead in the race for his signature.
Speaking about Simeone in an interview with Marca last month, Amrabat said: “What Simeone does, what he has achieved… He coached Atlético de Madrid for many years. I like his style of Game.
“He won a lot and I have a lot of respect for him. Your team’s players are physically strong and aggressive. I like playing like this.’
Amrabat’s desire to join Atletico Madrid is a setback for Liverpool, who may now be forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.
The club could have hoped to get the 26-year-old in a deal given that he is in the final 18 months of his Fiorentina contract, but this now looks unlikely.
The Merseyside club brought in Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the transfer window but have made no further signings since.
Jurgen Klopp has now insisted Liverpool’s business is done for this month, but there is still plenty of time for that to change, especially given his side’s position in the table. Liverpool currently sit in seventh place and seven points behind the top four, putting them at serious risk of missing out on Champions League football next season.
