In a club interview with Borussia Dortmund, a comment from Jude Bellingham caught the attention of Liverpool fans.
The England midfielder is widely regarded as the Reds’ main transfer target this year, with the likes of Real Madrid and Man City also closely linked.
However, there have been some suggestions that Bellingham is keen on a move to Anfield, and the latest quotes from him could hint at why he might be attracted to the idea of playing for the Reds.
Last year there was an interview in Bellingham in which he talked about wanting to play for a team that has a good relationship with his fans.
And his latest comments are along the same lines, with the 19-year-old even quoting Liverpool’s infamous ‘this means more’ quote. “I have the feeling that there are always clubs where their success is a bit different,” he said when asked to reflect on Dortmund’s victory in the 2021 DFB Cup final.
“I think because the fans are so connected to the team, because the city is so connected to football, it just means more.
“A win like that, where it means so much to the fans, means so much because you become a Dortmund fan.”
Such a connection with the fans is certainly something Bellingham would experience should he decide to join Liverpool later this year.
He was also asked about his time with England at the World Cup, where he played a key role in guiding Gareth Southgate’s side to the quarter-finals.
Speaking of enjoying the ‘pressure’ and ‘responsibility’ of big games, Bellingham also highlighted how his best football came when he was given ‘freedom’ on the pitch. During the tournament, he highlighted the role played by Jordan Henderson, who gave him that freedom by playing alongside him in midfield.
“I really felt at home, enjoying the pressure of the games and the responsibility the coach gave me,” continued Bellingham.
“I think my best game was Senegal when I was the most free and I had the license to be decisive and to walk the field.
“I think that’s where you saw my best performance of the tournament and it was just nice to be able to play with that freedom despite the pressure and to have so many good teammates around me who kept m ‘encouraging to continue what I was doing was busy.”
Join the Reds and there will be a lot more of this, Jude!
