Erling Haaland has joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Etihad Stadium. According to Haaland: “This is a day of celebration for me and my family. I’ve always like watching City, and I’ve especially enjoyed it in recent seasons. You can’t help but love their style of play; it’s fast-paced and plenty of opportunities, which is ideal for a player like me.

“I believe I am in the best environment to achieve my goals since this squad contains so many world-class players and Pep is one of the greatest managers of all time.

“I want to score goals, win trophies, and progress as a football player, and I am certain that I will be able to accomplish so here. This is a fantastic opportunity for me, and I’m looking forward to getting started in preseason.”

According to ESPN sources, City confirmed an agreement with the Bundesliga club to sign the striker in May after paying a €60 million ($64 million) release clause.

City beat Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to sign the Norway international, who was one of the most sought-after young players in the world.

In his first full season with Dortmund, Haaland scored 41 goals in 41 appearances after joining from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020. After making his international debut in 2019, he has scored 20 goals in 21 games for Norway. This season, he scored 36 goals in 34 games for both club and country.

Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, added: “We have been working hard.”

“He’s a fantastic talent who has been one of Europe’s top scorers in recent seasons.” His goal-scoring record is outstanding, and his achievements at Borussia Dortmund, particularly in the Champions League, have shown that he can compete at the greatest level.

“Erling possesses all of the qualities we need in a striker, and we are confident that he will thrive in this squad and system.”
