Manchester United has the funds necessary to acquire Frenkie de Jong.

On Saturday, there was a new development in the protests against the Glazer ownership of Manchester United. A group of supporters had planned to demonstrate outside of CEO Richard Arnold’s home, but he diverted them to a nearby pub and told them that the team had the funds to sign Frenkie de Jong.

Although the protests aren’t about new players joining, they do highlight issues with how the club has been run for almost a decade. Arnold was keen to avoid any potential conflict outside his home.

Following the discussion with the group of fans in the pub, a variety of subjects were discussed, including the requirement for outside funding to renovate Old Trafford, but what stood out in particular was Arnold’s candor in discussing transfers.

Arnold said, “We’re doing everything we can to seal the deal [on De Jong]. “I’m telling you, he can get the money.

“The money is there, but there are things standing in our way that I can’t say,” I’ve been up for days trying to get it done.

Although his performances in Barcelona haven’t quite reached the heights they had with Ajax under Erik ten Hag, Frenkie de Jong is immensely content there and doesn’t want to leave.

However, Barcelona seems to have other ideas for him and will be encouraged by Arnold’s revelation that Manchester United doesn’t care how much the Dutchman will cost.

Money is not a factor in who we want, he continued.
