Liverpool set to drop summer signing this month as rebuilding continues: report

Liverpool are in for a lot of upheaval in the coming weeks – and the deal at Anfield is still in the works

Liverpool only brought in a new face in January – but are ready to let the players leave their injury-ravaged squad.

The Reds are currently without Virgil van Dijk and Diogo Jota, among others, as Jurgen Klopp’s side sit ninth in the Premier League table. Only Cody Gakpo has moved to Anfield so far. The Dutchman has yet to score.

But with Klopp looking pessimistic about signings, it looks like the bodies will have to leave Merseyside before new blood is brought in. According to CaughtOffside (opens in new tab), Calvin Ramsay is on loan just months after joining Liverpool from Aberdeen.

The 19-year-old was an exciting signing in the summer, he is expected to serve as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deputy at right-back and is much loved in Scotland. At present, he has played once in the League Cup and once in Europe.

Swansea City are seen as a potential destination for the young defender, who signed a five-year deal in the summer for an initial fee of just over £4m. Ramsay became a club record sale for Aberdeen at the time. 37-year-old James Milner replaced the Reds’ right-back this season in Alexander-Arnold’s absence. The utility veteran became the second-youngest player ever in the Premier League when he came on as a substitute on his senior debut for Leeds United in 2002… the year before Ramsay was born.

Liverpool’s other summer signings Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho have so far received mixed reviews. Nunez received almost as much criticism as praise from fans, while Carvalho looked cheerful but regularly struggled to get into Klopp.
