Rashford breaks his silence with provocative message after Man Utd lose 7-0 to liverpool
Marcus Rashford broke his silence on Manchester United’s humiliating 7-0 defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.
Rashford started up front at Anfield but failed to influence play as his side were beaten 7-0 by the up-and-coming Liverpool.
Man United went from behind to half-time with clean sheets as they imploded in the second half conceding an impressive six goals, with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all on the scoresheet.
The painful defeat has Erik ten Hag asking questions about his team, while Rashford talks about the defeat on social media.
He tweeted: “Wish I could make a game today to try and fix things. The result is the result and we cannot see beyond it! We can’t let it dictate our season. We have to trust the process and stick together.”
Rashford has been in sensational form since the 2022 World Cup last year. He has scored 14 Premier League goals this season but failed to improve his tally against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Not a Man United player reacting to the crushing defeat as David De Gea took to social media after the result.
“I know these messages don’t go down well on a day like this,” he wrote. “It was a catastrophic moment for us and these results should not happen, especially in the journey that we are all on.
“We have a duty to this club, a responsibility to represent the crest, but we have a lot of opportunities to look forward to, a lot of games are coming fast and we have to focus on that.”
And after the match, Luke Shaw apologized while admitting that “standards” have dropped since the Carabao Cup triumph.
“Out there on the pitch, I felt embarrassed for us players, for the fans who supported us and watched at home,” he told Sky Sports.
“Seeing the second half…I can only apologize for that. We, as players, have to own it, have to stand up and accept that it wasn’t good enough.
“It was completely unacceptable. Our standards have clearly dropped since we won that trophy [the Carabao Cup seven days earlier] and we haven’t been ourselves in the last few games.”
“We have to find the good things we did before and bring them back because this hurts a lot and what we did in the second half is really unacceptable.
“We didn’t show personality and mentality. For a great team to come here, we have to do better.”
The loss to Liverpool marks Man United’s sixth league loss as they remain in third place.
They return to action on Thursday when they meet Real Betis in the Europa League before continuing their league campaign against Southampton on Sunday.
