Liverpool have work to do to fix their midfield for Jurgen Klopp. Ideally, this process would begin this month, but it’s more likely to happen in the summer.

Liverpool know their midfield needs a revamp. Jürgen Klopp is short of reliable and injury-free options and while Jude Bellingham will ideally be part of the answer, he cannot be the only solution, even if he signs.

Liverpool have to think about different things for next season, maybe even start the process before the summer by signing another contract this month, alongside Cody Gakpo.

We’ve looked at what the ideal Liverpool midfield signing might look like in a piece here, but about the form of the midfield as a whole? Big changes are definitely needed.

Thiago Alcântara will still be at Anfield and I hope Fabinho can get back to form. Ideally, Bellingham would arrive immediately and enter the starting XI.

Jordan Henderson should be rotated and getting the most out of his legs at 32 (33 at the start of next season). If he can play more sporadically, that would mean getting a better, more efficient version of him when he’s on the pitch. In an ideal world, a player ranked third or fourth in the overall pecking order – Matheus Nunes, for example – would also be bought, which would immediately improve the overall depth of the midfield position for Klopp.

Question mark on James Milner, Naby Keïta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, all out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Curtis Jones has more than enough talent to be at least a squad player, while Arthur Melo is unlikely to make his loan move permanent as he has been out injured for most of his tenure at Anfield.

Some of those higher in the pecking order right now should be pushed into that category as new transfers enter the mix.

But if the three players whose deals expire fold, another body will likely be needed, added for added depth. Youth options

The one thing Liverpool have no shortage of are talented young options. Fábio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott are both excellent, but perhaps better up the pitch, while some of the loan players are also showing promise.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that 20-year-old midfielder Tyler Morton, who impressed while on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, has signed a new contract.

While that alone cannot be the answer – the same can be said of fellow young talent Stefan Bajčetić – Liverpool need more players and Morton would make a perfect choice and already have Champions League experience.
