Van Dijk and Firmino are accelerating the recovery

Liverpool have been handed an injury boost after Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino were pictured training outside on Thursday.

The Dutchman hasn’t featured for the Reds since limping off with a hamstring injury against Brentford last month, while the Brazilian suffered an injury during Liverpool’s mid-season training camp in Dubai.

Jurgen Klopp revealed that the pair, along with Diogo Jota, were a couple of weeks away from a return to team training when offering his latest injury update last week

Jürgen Klopp revealed the pair, along with Diogo Jota, were weeks away from returning to squad training when he offered his latest injury update last week.

“Closer, yes. (Imminent?) No.” Klopp when asked about the trio during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Reds’ FA Cup away match at Brighton. “It will take a few more weeks. I think. Luis will take longer.

“But Diogo, Bobby and Virgil, a few weeks before they can train and then we’ll see how fast it goes after that.”

And while Van Dijk and Firmino have not trained with the squad, hinting they won’t return for Saturday’s away match against Wolves, they were photographed together outside the AXA Training Center in training gear and looking good-humoured as they finished the final step in their respective recovery.
