Jurgen Klopp has already made his feelings clear as Gabriel Martinelli signs new deal with Arsenal

Gabriel Martinell has signed a long-term deal with Arsenal as Jurgen Klopp’s striker prediction begins to come true.

The Liverpool manager previously gushed about the 21-year-old early in his career after bursting onto the scene as an 18-year-old under Unai Emery.

He netted twice for the Gunners in their thrilling 5-5 Carabao Cup draw with the Reds in 2019 – in which the nine-time winners emerged victorious on penalties.

Speaking after the match, Klopp said: “Martinelli is around the same age but he’s a talent of the century, he’s an incredible striker so it’s really difficult.

“He’s really amazing,” he added. “So young, he already looks so mature, he’s a real threat. Yes, he looks like a very good player.”

“I didn’t want to put a backpack [pressure] on his back with this thing, but I really like good football players and he’s obviously really good.”

The praise of the successful Liverpool manager didn’t stop there. “[Gabriel] Martinelli, I was enthusiastic about him from an early age.

He became exactly the player I expected. He deserves everything that happens to him,” he said three years after receiving his first accolades.

Since then, Martinelli has made 111 appearances for the north London side, scoring 25 goals, with the current season being his best performance since joining from Ituano in July 2019.

His seven goals and two assists propelled Mikel Arteta’s team to the top of the Premier League with a five-point lead on Matchday 20. Should the Spanish boss return to haunt his former club Everton on Saturday, he could extend the gap to eight points.

And on the eve of their trip to Merseyside, Martinelli signed a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium which should keep him in the capital until at least 2027.
