“Likely a good sign” – Charles Watts says possible injury boost for Arsenal

Journalist Charles Watts has dropped a positive tip on Arsenal defender Saliba after he was withdrawn mid-week with injury.

Journalist Charles Watts has hinted that Arsenal star William Saliba need not worry about possible injuries.

What happened to Saliba in the Arsenal defeat?

Arsenal were knocked out of the Europa League on penalties by Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium, with Takehiro Tomiyasu and Saliba picking up early injuries in what has been a nightmare scenario for Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal may have received a boost as Saliba’s injury appears not to be serious. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts shared that the defender walked normally as he left the stadium following the loss, having initially limped off the field.
He said: ‘Saliba went through [the mixed zone] too and Simon [Collings] said he looked good; he was fine when he came out. There were no crutches like Tomiyasu or anything, he walked normally. So this is potentially a good sign.

“I hope it was more precautionary with Saliba. He looked like he was holding his back a bit so maybe he was in some pain and Arsenal didn’t want to take any chances and couldn’t continue and hopefully he’s fit, I think that’s the crucial thing. “

How important is Saliba to Arsenal?
The 21-year-old finally made his debut for the club this season, more than three years after his arrival and a string of loan spells, and he has settled in without problems.

Arsenal have been sensational all season at the top of the Premier League, and the centre-back is a major reason behind their incredible performances this season.
His ability with the ball makes him stand out as a defender as he ranks in the top 6% of centre-backs for passing in Europe’s top leagues according to FBref, and has started every Premier League game this season.

He has formed a solid partnership with Gabriel in defense and Arsenal have conceded just 25 goals this season, a record surpassed only by Newcastle United. Praising the pair, Arteta praised the consistency of the defenders and that they are ‘making each other better’.

Saliba’s impact on this Arsenal side has therefore been transformative and he has already established himself as one of the team’s most important figures. Should he be left on the sidelines, Arsenal’s title race could be in jeopardy, so Watts’ update should come as a huge relief to the club.
